Green Hills AEA has an extensive history of prioritizing school safety in Southwest Iowa. We have a Crisis Prevention and Response core team that meets throughout each school year to develop crisis prevention, intervention, and response procedures and support for local districts. Our core team includes Vince Winkler, Angie Williams, Jane King, Melanie Freund, Meghan Wilson, and Jana Hensley (pictured below). In addition to our core team, GHAEA has 30 staff from across the agency who are trained in crisis response and available to serve on crisis response teams.
In the past 2 1/2 years, our team has provided post crisis response support in 21 districts and has consulted on over 70 individual cases. When a request for assistance is received, we work closely with local LEA staff to determine the level of response needed and to plan response efforts according to the local team’s preference. Our team frequently provides support to administrators, school safety teams, staff, students, and families and is available via phone, virtual, or in-person meetings.
